SJK (T) Saraswathy History

In 1923, SJK (T) Saraswathy was started by the Subramaniam Temple committee members with only a teacher and 25 pupils. The first headmaster of the school is Mr Swamy Naiker. The salary of the staffs and the finance responsibility for the school was fully contributed by the committee. In 1940, the committee members who were Veeraya Thevar and his secretary, A Subramaniam and the headmaster, Mr Nadeson were the ones who gave a new change over to the school by doing some modifications as for them theres no better way to start as you mean to go on than by ensuring everyone in class is on the same page.

In 1941, the school was moved to a new area which is called Kampung Asina ( Pekan Atap) as the number of students increased to 48 pupils. After some time, it was changed again to an area that was nearer to a post office. The school was then combined with SK Khir Johari for some time and the numbers of pupils reported were 120 pupils and 6 teachers.

In 1957, Subramanian Devasthanam provided 5 hectors of lands to build the school. With the financial support of RM 15,000 from the Malaysian Government, the school was completely built in 1961. The inaugural of the construction was initiated by our First Prime Minister during that time, Tunku Abdul Rahman Al Haj. The headmaster, Mr Thirupathi had used the financial support given by Kedah state, RM 20,000 to build the school canteen in 1978. Furthermore, in 1984, the school got its double-storey building by the help of Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC). The building was officially started to operate in 7 April 1984 which then was officiated by Dato Seri S Samyveloo.

The basic facilities needed for the school such as library, computer lab, school hall, counseling room, science lab, guard house, music room, art room, meeting room, KSSR room, Frog VLE room, sports room, store and many other facilities were then developed. A band team was formed as the school is concern towards the cultural and musical concept.
